Wells, age 83, of Athens, passed away on May 17, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.                                                                      </p>
<p>She is survived by one son;  Gary (Nancy) Wells of Springfield, two daughters;  Joyce Wells of Springfield and Karen (Kevin) Fawns of Athens, grandchildren; Aaron (Faye) Wells of Chicago, Justin Wells of Chicago, and Ashley Fawns of Athens.</p>
<p>Virginia was born on April 19, 1929 in Beardstown, the daughter of Floris D. and Hazel Marie Skinner White.  She married Harry S. Wells on July 23, 1950 in Springfield and were married for 60 years.               </p>
<p>She is preceded in death by her husband on February 5, 2011, and a brother Frank White.  </p>
<p>Virginia worked at Sangamo Electric, Franklin Life Insurance Company and retired from the IL Secretary of State’s office after 20 years of service.  </p>
<p>She graduated from Marion High School in 1947.<br />
Virginia was a 50 year plus member of the Flower City Order of the Eastern Star in Springfield and she was a member of the Athens Christian Church. </p>
<p>She enjoyed flower gardening, quilting, camping, oil painting, getting together with her Red Hat friends, and spending time with family.</p>
<p>Visitation will be held at Mott &#038; Henning Funeral Home in Athens on Monday May 21, 2012, where friends may call from 6 to 8 PM and where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 11:00 AM.</p>
<p>Rev. Chance Newingham will be officiating.</p>
<p>Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.</p>

Dolores Ann Griffin, age 77, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at St. John’s Hospice.                       </p>
<p>Dolores was born February 23, 1935 in Springfield, the daughter of Wm. Earl and Gertrude Irene Hawkins, who preceded her in death.  She married Floyd E. Griffin on November 4, 1956 in Springfield.  They were married for 50 years. He preceded her in death February 2, 2008.</p>
<p>Dolores attended Enos and Lawrence Grade School.  She was a 1953 graduate of Springfield High School.  She was a member of a woman’s choral group called the Singing Seven from 1952 to 1953.  She was the piano accompanist for the acapella choir for two years.</p>
<p>She was employed at Security Federal Savings and Loan, State of Illinois, and the Grand Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.</p>
<p>Dolores was past Worthy Advisor, Order of the Rainbow for Girls of Springfield, Assembly #18.  She received the Grand Cross of Color-Order of the Rainbow for Girls, past President of Zeta Rho Chapter Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.  She is a member of the Southside Christian Church.</p>
<p>She is survived by two sons, Ron E. (wife Terri) Griffin of Springfield and Rodney E. Griffin of California; granddaughter, Cortney A. (husband Jason) Graham; grandsons, Gabriel (wife Mia) Griffin and Corey (wife Tabatha) Griffin; seven great-granchildren; two sisters, Phyllis J. Dunn of Springfield, Nancy E. (husband Frank) Dunkus of Springfield, step-granddaughter, Cassie Jo (husband Jared) Lowder of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews &#038; cousins.                                      </p>
<p>Dolores enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and traveling.</p>
<p>Funeral services will be held at Southside Christian Church in Springfield on Saturday at 12:00 PM.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 until time of funeral service there at 12:00 PM.  </p>
<p>Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery.                                              </p>
<p>Rev. John Wentze will be officiating.</p>
<p>In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dolores Ann Griffin, to Southside Christian Church or the American Cancer Society.</p>

Robert “Bob” W. Croft, Sr., age 83, of Athens, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012 at the Christian Village in Lincoln.                                                                         .</p>
<p>Bob is survived by his wife, Velma; a son Robert (Jo Ellen) Croft, Jr. of Athens; a daughter, Melaney Hughes of Springfield; four grandchildren, Adam (Linette) Hughes, Michele (Jeffery) Woods, Sarah Asbrock, and Robert (Stephanie) Croft III; five great-grandchildren, Justen and Felicity Hughes, Anneliese and Thomas Woods, and Joshua Asbrock; a sister, Joann Montgomery; and several nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>He is preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Croft; two brothers, Donovan and Delmar; and three sisters, Charlene, Naomi Gene, and Margaret.</p>
<p>Bob was born July 2, 1928 in Middletown, IL, the son of Thomas and Helen Ackerman Croft.              </p>
<p>He married Velma Laws on October 10, 1948 in the Christian Church parsonage in Athens.</p>
<p>He worked at the rock quarry near Athens and Ahrenkiel’s Automotive for several years. Bob owned and operated Bob’s Mobil in Athens for 32 years.  After retiring from Bob’s Mobil he later worked for the Villa Healthcare in Sherman as a maintenance worker.  </p>
<p>He was a volunteer and past Fire Chief for the Athens Fire Department for many years.  Bob was a life member of the Athens Christian Church and also served as a deacon and elder there.</p>
<p>Visitation will be held at the Athens Christian Church on Friday, April 11, 2012 from 9:00 until time of funeral service there at 10:00 AM.<br />

Rev. Ken Gennicks and Rev. Robert William Croft III will be officiating.</p>
<p>Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.</p>

Juanita “Nita” Mae Johnson, 93, of Effingham, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham, IL, following a brief illness.</p>
<p>Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Greenview United Presbyterian Church, Greenview, IL, with the Rev. Stephanie McCullough and Rev. Drew Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Greenview, IL.<br />

<p>Nita was born on January 20, 1919 in Ashland, IL, the daughter of Wilbur and Cora (Gorham) Moore. She was the fourth of their five children. She graduated from Ashland Community High School number 1 in her class of 1937. </p>
<p>She graduated from Illinois State University with a 2 year Teaching Certificate in 1939. Her teaching career began with teaching the 1st grade in Ashland from 1939 through 1950. She taught 1st grade in Virginia, IL in 1950 and 1951.</p>
<p>Nita married James E. Johnson on August 24, 1951 at West Side Christian Church, Springfield, IL by the Rev. Charles W. Ridlen, honeymooning at the Lake of the Ozarks.                        He preceded her in death on July 4, 1995.</p>
<p>They moved to Greenview, IL, in November 1955 to begin her 26-year teaching career.<br />
She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Illinois State University in 1966.<br />
After retiring in 1982 at the age of 63 with 43 years of teaching she began substituting in Greenview and Petersburg for several more years. She was a lifetime member of National Education Association and a member of the Retired Teachers of Illinois.</p>
<p>She had been an active member of the Greenview United Presbyterian Church, Greenview. She was a Sunday school teacher, active member of the Women’s Fellowship, and the Sunday school treasurer for over 25 years. She was also a volunteer teacher for the State of Illinois Rules of the Road. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed going to movies, and spending time with family and good friends. She relocated from Greenview to Effingham in 2008.</p>
<p>Nita is survived by her son J. Michael (Karla) Johnson of Effingham; granddaughters,<br />
Amy (Dave) Zerrusen of Teutopolis, and Meredith (Jon) Fulton of Effingham; great-grandsons, Blake, Grant, Derrick, and Shawn; sister-in-law, Mrs.William Paul (Anna May) Moore of Hillsboro; and several nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; brothers, Joseph Moore, Earl Moore, William Paul Moore; and sister, Joyce Frantz.</p>

Homer Weidhuner, age 81, of Greenview, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.                                                                         </p>
<p>Homer is survived by his wife Anna Weidhuner; a daughter Kathryn (Mark) Schreiner of Greenview; a son, Karl (Dawn) Weidhuner of Greenview; six grandchildren, Ashlei and Evan Birch, Allison, Amanda, and Austin Weidhuner, and Nicole Schreiner; and several nieces and nephews.	</p>
<p>He is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Carol Birch.</p>
<p>Homer was born July 15, 1930 in Sherman, Illinois, the son of Fred A. and Tina Simmering Weidhuner.             </p>
<p>He married Anna Albers on June 25, 1955.</p>
<p>Homer was a livestock farmer for all his life.  He served on the Zion Lutheran Church Board, the L.G. Co-op Board, and the Menard Rural Water Co-op Board, Greenview School Board, and the Middletown State Bank Board.  Homer was a member of the Pork Council, FBFM Board and Menard County Pork Producers.</p>
<p>He graduated from Middletown High School and enjoyed operating his antique tractors.</p>
<p>Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Monday, April 30, 2012 at Mott &#038; Henning Funeral Home in Athens.  An additional visitation will be held from 9:00 until time of funeral service at 10:00 on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Zion Lutheran Church in New Holland.                                             </p>
<p>Rev. Charles Olander will be officiating.</p>
<p>Burial will be held at Walnut Ridge Cemetery near Middletown. </p>
<p>Memorials can be made to the Zion Lutheran Church in New Holland.</p>
<p>The family would like to thank all the doctors and medical staff for their care and kindness given to Homer.</p>

Susan Neavill Bice, age 68, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at her home.                                                                          .</p>
<p>She is survived by a son Dale (wife Staci) Garlits of Springfield; daughter Dawn Goin (fiance’ Whitney Harvey) of California; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Howard, Frances Weidhuner, and Mary Jane Murphy; and several nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>Susan is preceded in death by a son, Chris Garlits; and a brother, Lee Neavill.</p>
<p>She was born August 2, 1943 the daughter of Matt and Jessie (Kern) Neavill near Fancy Prairie.                                                     </p>
<p>Susan was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield.  She worked at SIU School of Medicine and University of Texas for nearly 30 years, and later at Wal-mart for 3 years in the Maintenance Department.    </p>
<p>Susan enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and especially her grandchildren.</p>
<p>Visitation will be held at Third Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 10:00 until time of funeral services there at 11:00 AM.</p>

Annette L. Parks, age 73, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center with her family by her side.</p>
<p>Annette was born December 14, 1938 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of James and Lucille (Wiker) Bryant.  She married Kenneth E. Parks, Sr. on December 31, 1956 in Petersburg, Illinois.</p>
<p>Annette was employed as a Public Service Administrator for the Illinois Department of Transportation for over 39 years.  She was of the Athens United Methodist Church.</p>
<p>She is preceded in death by her grandson James E. Harvey and a brother John Bryant.</p>
<p>Surviving are her beloved husband of 55 years, Kenneth E. Parks, Sr. of Athens; two children, daughter Vickie (husband Terry) Harvey of Springfield, son, Kenneth E. Parks, Jr. of Florida; and three grandchildren, Christopher &#038; Catherine Harvey and Cassie Hornstein; and one brother, James Bryant of Missouri.</p>
<p>Visitation will be held at Mott &#038; Henning Funeral Home, where friends may call from<br />
5:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday, April 27, 2012.  Funeral services will be held there at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 28, 2012.</p>

<p>Barbara is survived by her husband, Allen Poe; a daughter, Robin Asafailo of Williamsville; two-granddaughters, Jennifer (fiancé Tory) Zoelzer of Quincy and Suzanne (Josh) Gasparini of Middletown; one grandson, Eric (fiancé Cassie) Asafailo of Dawson; seven great-granchildren, Austin &#038; Rylie Cohn, Peyton Kaufmann, Isabella and Aidan Gasparini, and Madison &#038; Dominic Asafailo.</p>
<p>She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Jane Whiteside; a daughter, Penny; and a son, Edgar. </p>
<p>Barbara was born April 17, 1939 in Elgin, Illinois. She married Allen Poe on December 6, 1958.</p>
<p>She graduated from Vienna High School in 1956.</p>
<p>Barbara drove the school bus for over 38 years for the Williamsville School District.  She was a life-member and past-secretary and treasurer of the Williamsville Volunteer Fire Department.</p>
<p>She was a member of the Williamsville United Methodist Church.</p>
<p>Visitation will be held at Mott &#038; Henning Funeral Home in Athens where friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 25, 2012.  Funeral services will be held at the Williamsville Methodist Church at 10:00 on Thursday, April 26, 2012.</p>
<p>Rev. Dick Piscatelli officiating.</p>
<p>Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery.</p>
<p>Memorials can be made to the American Lung Association or to the National Kidney Foundation.</p>

Burkhead, age 88, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.  </p>

Sterling &#038; Lola Otto of Petersburg and several nieces &#038; nephews.</p>
<p>She married Edward Burkhead on December 8, 1967. Viola is preceded in death by her husband on March 18, 2009, and a daughter, Janet Tomlin in 1965. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals, playing dice, cards and loved to bowl.</p>
<p>Visitation will be held from 12:00 until time of funeral service at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Mott &#038; Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Rev. Ken Gennicks officiating. Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association</p>

<p>A visitation will be held at Mott &#038; Henning Funeral Home in Athens on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 5:00 until 8:00.  The funeral will take place at the Williamsville United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 10:00 AM.  He was an active member of the church most of his life.  </p>
<p>Memorial contributions may be directed to the Williamsville United Methodist Church.</p>
<p>John was born on February 9, 1926 in Williamsville, the son of Sarah A. and Thorton P. Jones.  He married Jamima E. Keathley on August 15, 1953 and she preceded him in death on March 27, 1998.</p>
<p>He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, Champaign and majored in accounting.  He started his career at Ernest &#038; Ernest in St. Louis as an auditor then became President of the Williamsville State Bank until his retirement.</p>
<p>He is survived by a son, Christopher (Gail) Jones of Springfield; a daughter, Heidi (Matthew) Freeby of Beaver Dam, WI; two grandsons, Marcus and John Freeby. </p>
<p>The family would like to thank Gowin Parc for their exceptional care of John as he fought Alzheimer’s Disease.</p>
<p>Rev. Dick Piscatelli will be officiating.</p>
<p>Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.</p>
