Gary Chastain

Gary Chastain, age 85, of Sherman, passed away on December 3, 2022 at the Bridge in Springfield, Illinois.

He was born August 1, 1937 in Spokane, Missouri, the son of Efton and Iva (Eisenhower) Chastain.

Gary married Janet Walters on March 24, 1956.

Mourning his passing are his daughter, Kathy Convery, son Gary (Lynn) Chastain; grandchildren, Shane Convery, Jeremy Convery, Lindsay (Dave) Wilder, and Matthew (Lacey) Chastain; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Dennis “Chick” Chastain; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Janet; brothers, Bennie Chastain, Orin “Tucker” Chastain, Darrel Chastain, Bob Chastain, and Randy Chastain.

Gary graduated from Athens High School in 1955.

Throughout his career he worked as a cabinet maker and carpenter in home construction.  As a final career he owned and operated a Recreational Vehicle Center in Athens.

Gary enjoyed camping with family and friends.  He also enjoyed wintering in warm Florida weather playing cards and puzzles with loved ones.

Visitation for Gary will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 9:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.  Burial will be held at Wolfe Creek Cemetery near Sherman immediately after the services.

Memorial contributions can be made to Huntington’s Disease Society of America and National Parkinson’s Foundation.
