Joyce Darlene Kern, age 79, of Athens, passed away on August 28, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. She is survived by three daughters, Karen Squires of Tallula, Sharon (Jerry) Judd of Athens and Carolyn Kern of Springfield; grandchildren, Jennifer Judd (Theado Bonds), Kara (Zach) Alderman, Katie (Jason) Bruning, Sarah Squires, Kristin (Jeff) Leiker, and Ryan Squires; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob, Lillian, Ellie, Molly, Adalyn, and Nicholas; one sister Marilyn (Delbert) Tobias and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband in February.
She was born January 8, 1934 in Springfield, the daughter of Henry and Lillian Neibert Cantrall.
Joyce married John Kern on September 12, 1953 at the Athens United Methodist Church.
Her greatest joy was time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 from 10 am until time of funeral service at 11 am at Mott & Henning Funeral Home.
Pastor Don Neisler will be officiating.
Burial will be at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.
Memorials can be made to the Make a Wish Foundation and UCP of Springfield.
