Aiden Jones, age 18, of Athens, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023.
Aiden was born October 12, 2005 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Kimberly Jones and Christopher Reid.
Mourning his passing are his mother, Kimberly Jones (husband Michael Lewis) of Athens, IL; brother, Memphis Jones of Athens, IL; three half-siblings, Jessica, Taylor, and Ted Lewis of Hannah City, IL; father, Christopher Reid and a half-sister, Emma Reid both of Rochester, IL; grandmother “Granin”, Linda Jones of Chatham, IL; grandfather, Benny (wife Linda) Jones of Greenville, SC; his girlfriend who meant everything, Hannah Niewold of Cantrall, IL; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and countless friends.
He is preceded in death by an uncle, Allen Galbraith of Piffard, NY and great grandparents, Sharon and Dorothy Galbraith of Piffard, NY; and Raymond and Virgil Jones of Cambridge, OH.
Aiden was a Junior at Athens High School.
He worked as Bucket Operator for Putnam Tree Service in Athens.
Aiden loved street riding bicycles and taught many friends and young bicyclists to ride and do “wheelies”. He spent many hours wrenching motors and anything with wheels and leaving the garage in chaos – all with a smile on his face. He truly loved life and living in the fast lane. What Aiden enjoyed most was being a big brother to Memphis and teaching him how to do everything. He treasured all the times he spent just hanging out with friends.
He enjoyed fishing, spending time on Lake Michigan with family, Buffalo Bills football, and shredding as many new skate parks as he could find.
We will all miss his energy, infectious smile, and impulsive personality that made everyone laugh.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
A memorial gathering for Aiden will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.

Kathy and I are so saddened and can not imagine the pain you are in. Family’s come togeather to help in times of need….. We Love you guys and will be there for you all just let us know where. Memphis is such a breath of fresh air and could use a buddy to talk to please tell him to call me anytime .

I did not know Aiden and I don’t know his family. But I do know what it is like to lose a child in a car accident. My daughter lost her life in a single car accident 22 years ago
She was a month shy of her 17th birthday. To this day we don’t know what happened. The sudden shock of her being here one day and gone the next was extremely hard to take.
I will not pretend to know how you feel. We all process things differently. I had a lot of support from friends and family. I even had complete strangers reach out to me. On the other hand, there were a lot of close friends who avoided me because it was uncomfortable for them. I struggled for a long time. My coping mechanism was to write letters to her. I still have them. In the end you have a choice to accept what has happened and move on with life and the rest of your family, or let the grief consume you. I was mad at god and it was hard to let him help me heal. I eventually learned to put my grief and anger on a shelf and be the father that my two sons needed and the hushand my wife deserved. The pain never goes away. I just learned to not let it own me.
I have payed back the favor of support given to me by others that I did not know. All that I have to offer is my own experience and I offer to talk or an ear to just listen from someone who just might understand what you are going through. If I never hear from you, there is no offense taken. After all, you do not know me.
May god comfort and guide you at what has to be the most difficult time of your life.

I know we haven’t spoke since around this time last year. I feel for you and our son Memphis. Especially with the 24th coming there are no words that can express what you two and granin are about to endure. I still can’t believe this has happened

Aiden’s passing is an unspeakable loss. We cannot imagine a world without him in it. Please know there are circles and circles of love and support surrounding you all. We are so very sorry.
