Arthur “Pete” Nance, age 75, of Greenview, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Memorial Medical Center, in Springfield.

He was born October 31, 1946, in Greenview, Illinois, the son of Jack and Gladys (Messinger) Nance.

Pete married Sharon Glenn on May 27, 1972 at Indian Point Presbyterian Church.

Mourning his passing is his wife, Sharon; sons, Jay (Cam) Nance, Rob (Kris) Kern, Doug Kern, and Steve (Tina) Nance; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Butch Nance; sisters, Helen Tuttle, Jean Bell, and Bev Cooper.

Pete graduated from Greenview High School in 1965.

He worked for Growmark Inc. for 44 years until he retired in 2019.

Pete was a member of the Greenview AMVETS, served as Menard County Commissioner for six years,  and was a member of the Greenview Christian Church.

He loved mowing his yard, gardening, NASCAR, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pete served for the U.S. Army from 1966 thru 1968, where he served a tour of duty in Vietnam as an Engineer.  He was stationed at Quinhon, Vietnam.  He earned a National Defense Service Medal, Two Overseas Service Bars, and Marksman Badge.

Visitation for Pete will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home.  Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview after the services.

Memorial contributions can be made to Gift of Hope or Greenview AMVETS.

I just loved going into the mini mart, sharing stories with him and listening to him laugh!! His laugh was absolutely the greatest!! I so wish I would have spent time with him these past few years but his memory with be with me for all time. Praying for comfort for you all.

  17. Sharon and family: Just learned of Pete’s passing . So sorry I missed the visitation and funeral. Pete was a fun person to be around and had great support from his fellow employees and farmers. Will always remember the big carp catch and feed at the Petersburg FS station. (Probably 1978 or 79) Thanks Pete for all your years of service to FS ( you to Sharon) . We shared many good times a few difficult ones. Been a pleasure! Rest In Peace!
