Merle Bennett age 77, of Petersburg, IL passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Memorial Medical Center.

Fifteen Great-grandchildren

Mr. Bennett was born November 12, 1931 in Tice, IL the son of Thomas and Irene Balster Bennett.

He married Wanda Sheppard at Athens Christian Church on October 11, 1969.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Eileen McDonald.

Merle graduated from Athens High School in 1950.
He was a lifetime member of the Chataqua Sportsman Club. Merle was a member of the Athens Christian Church.

Merle was a self employed contractor for 50 years. He loved boating, fishing and camping.

Visitation will be held on Monday November 2, 2009 at the Athens Christian Church starting at 10:00 until the time of funeral service at 12:00 P.M. Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Shane Baker will be officiating.

Steve, Dave, Greg and the rest of the Bennett family. I was sorry to read of your father’s passing. Although I did not know him very well, I felt like I did because of the conversations I had with you. Some of the things Steve told me his father had said to him I remember to this day. May God comfort your families and always try to remember the good times you shared with your dad.

Wanda & Family, Rich & I would like to offer our condolences. We are pretty sad, but will always remember the good times we had at the VFW together. If you need anything, just ask, Wanda.
