Burkhead, Viola

Viola J. Burkhead, age 88, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.

She is survived by three daughters; Verna (Ralph) McGee of Springfield, Patty Herron of Columbus, Georgia, Mary Jo Lornitis of Springfield, Several Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren and sisters, Dorothy Churchill of Mt. Sterling & Lola Otto of Petersburg and several nieces & nephews.

She married Edward Burkhead on December 8, 1967. Viola is preceded in death by her husband on March 18, 2009, and a daughter, Janet Tomlin in 1965. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals, playing dice, cards and loved to bowl.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 until time of funeral service at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Rev. Ken Gennicks officiating. Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association
