Carol A. Freer, age 75, of Sherman, passed away surrounded by her family, on May 2, 2018 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg.

She was born on September 27, 1942 in Athens, IL, the daughter of Charles and Gladys Ferguson Walkup.

She is survived by her husband Lynn; children, Lori (Don) Richardson of Athens, Les (Margaret) Freer of Auburn, Thomas (Deidre) Freer of Athens; Lynn Jr. (Barb) Freer of Mt. Pulaski, and Paul Freer of Davenport, IA; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; siblings, James (Beth) Glenn of Mineral, CA, Sharon (Pete) Nance of Greenview, and Terry Glenn of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents Charles Walkup and Gladys L. & Clarence Glenn.

She worked for Freers’ Processing Plant, State of Illinois Department of Rehabilitation, and as a medical transcriptionist for Physicians Group, Ripon Hospital, and Mason District Hospital.

Carol had a strong Catholic faith and was a member of St. John Vianney Church.

She was hard working and took pride in all she did throughout her life.  Carol was dedicated to her family and loved all of her grandchildren with her whole heart.  She loved music and enjoyed playing the accordion.  She also loved shopping, especially for her family.  Carol will always be known for being the best person to wake you up in the mornings.

A visitation for Carol will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 9:00 until time of funeral mass at 10:00 AM at St. John Vianney Church in Sherman with Father George Nellikunnel officiating.

Cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials can be given to Sunny Acres Nursing Home or St. John Vianney Church.
