Carole A. Harmening, age 85, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born July 28, 1936 the daughter of Robert and Ruth (Turner) Turbeville.

She married Max Harmening on May 23, 1955

Carole is survived by three sons; Bruce (Karen) Harmening of Athens, Robert (Lori) Harmening of Greenview, William (Debra) Harmening of Unionville, TN; two daughters, Brenda (Jeff) Patterson of Springfield and Barbi Gimondo of Athens; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and life-long friend, Wilma Brennan.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Max; a granddaughter, Cassie Gimondo; and a brother, Harold “Jack” Rodgers.

Carole worked as a hostess for many years at the Red Coach Inn in Springfield.

She was a member of the Athens Christian Church.

Carole’s passion was her family.

Private family services will be held.  Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.

Memorials can be made to the Sangamon County Humane Society.

  2. Our deepest sympathy 🙏 to the family. Carole was a great neighbor when we lived next door to her and Max. We had many talks on her back deck, that was in the good old days. She was so sweet and funny. She will be greatly missed. RIP Carole, tell Max we said hello.

  6. I am so very sorry to hear this news. I loved stopping and talking to Carole and Max when out walking with my kids. They had grandkids my kids age. They were so very nice and always said hello. I know Carole will be missed by all of you. But I’m sure your memories will put smiles on your faces and help you through this time.

  9. Carole & Max were my neighbors when the 3 boys were quite young on North 16th Street in Springfield. Great family & kept in contact thru the years. My sincere condolences to Bruce, Bob, Bill, Barbi & Brenda and all the grandkids & great-grandkids. Treasure the memories – she will be missed.

    I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. She was such a sweet lady and always ready to talk and laugh. I last saw her a couple of years ago when she was in the hospital and enjoyed talking to her. I’m sure you all have happy memories of her to keep in your hearts. May God give you peace.
