Christopher “Chris” D. Jouett, age 62, of Athens, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Alton, Illinois on October 25, 1962, the son of Robert “Bob” and Betty (Kirchner) Jouett.
Christopher married Pamela Newton on November 9, 1985, at Southside Christian Church in Springfield, Illinois.
Mourning his passing are his wife, Pam; children, Charlie (wife Tiffany) and their children, Sophia and Liam; Josh (wife Brooke) and their son, Rhett, and Cabriel (husband Rance) Voiles; sisters, Karen (husband Warren) Rabe, Linda Cohen, and Janet (husband Denny) Hansen; many nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Neta Newton and Ken Newton.
Chris graduated from White Hall North Greene High School in 1980. He attended Illinois College in Jacksonville where he was a member of the school’s baseball team. Chris later earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Sangamon State University in Springfield in 1984.
Chris worked for the Social Security Administration as an Adjudicator for 32 years retiring in 2018. Once retired, he owned and operated Jouett Lawncare for several more years until 2024.
He was a member of Southside Christian Church and later attended Williamsville Christian Church.
Chris was an avid bowler and softball player. He participated in several softball and bowling leagues throughout the years, where he became very close to his team members.
He loved watching his grandchildren’s sports activities and spending time at the ball fields. Outside of the sports activities, his favorite thing to do was to spend time at family gatherings and cookouts.
Chris was always available to help with his children’s home projects as a general contractor whose advice was to hire out for help. He was always impressed with the results even though his kids did not listen to him.
Chris coached his children’s various sports teams throughout their lives and loved playing sports with them.
Above all he loved his family. He was the leader and protector of everyone he loved and will continue to do the same from above.
