Cynthia “Cindy” Cain, age 66, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Saturday, April, 22, 2023 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Cynthia was born on October 10, 1956 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Ellen Vinlove. Cindy is preceded in death by her parents.

She married Kevin Cain on June 10, 1994, enjoying nearly 30 years together as best friends and soul mates.

Mourning her passing are, husband, Kevin; son, Christopher Lloyd Violet; step-son, Skyler Cain (fiancé Heather Torres); step-daughter, Shawna Cain (husband Brandon Koida); siblings, Don (wife Sheryl) Vinlove, Linda (husband Dennis) Kall, and David Gene (wife Somjai) Vinlove; several grandchildren, Danielle Violet, Damon Violet, Caitlyn Violet, Chris Violet, Gabrielle Cain, Logan Cain, Rylen Torres, Spencer Cain, and Kenzo Koida; great-grandchild, Ellie; and several nieces and nephews.

She retired from Horace Mann after 30 years and went on to make a successful career with her true passion: antiques and DIY upcycling. She loved transforming vintage items with skill, care and artistry to give them a new life. She and husband Kevin became co-owners of the Rusty Star Marketplace Antique and Craft Mall in Divernon for over ten years.

Cindy was a “dog person” and her dogs were her family. She was also an avid gardener specializing in flowers and landscaping. She always seemed to make everything beautiful around her.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

Visitation for Cindy will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 11:00 AM until time of memorial services at 1:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.

Burial will be held Sugar Grove Cemetery near Sweetwater, Illinois immediately after the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Protective League; 1001 Taintor Rd, Springfield, IL 62702.

  11. Kevin and family I want to tell you how sorry I am to hear of Cindy’s passing. I worked under her at Horace Mann and she was always a very good friend and manager. But she was so talented at making such beautiful things that I was glad she finally got to go into it full time. May the Lord give you the strength you need to get through.

  13. Kevin I am so glad that I recently spent over 2 hours sharing past memories. We talked grandchildren and shared photos. Beautiful memories for a special lady she will be missed by all of us that knew her.
