Allison “Al” Dirks
d. September 15, 2015
Allison Dirks, age 53, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday September 15, 2015 at his residence.
He is survived by a son, Bradley; wife, Sherrie of Athens, as well as cousins.
Al is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie A. Dirks who was born February 10, 1929 and died, December 3, 2005 at the age of 76; and Dorothy J. Dirks who was born August 20, 1922 and died on September 12, 2011 at the age of 89.
Al was born in Springfield, IL on June 7, 1962 the son of Eddie and Dorothy Allison Dirks.
He graduated from Athens High School in 1979.
Al started his own business of Area Glass in Athens at age 27.
He enjoyed playing softball with his friends and sponsored his Area Glass Softball Team throughout most of his life. Al had a green-thumb and loved to garden and shared most of his crops with his family and friends. Al was an avid Cardinals fan and took his son with him to many games including World Series games and Mark McGwire homerun chase games.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Al will be missed. I saw him working out of the back of his truck last Tuesday and was going to stop and say hi. I thought to myself I will catch up with him another time. Life is short and should not be taken for granted. God bless you and your family. RIP!
