Dr. Russell Hill

HILL, Dr. Russell Greene 94, of St. Pete Beach, Fl, entered into his eternal life surrounded by his family and devoted caregivers, May 17, 2018. He was the son of Dr. Thomas G. Hill, MD and Hattie C. Hill. He was born May 11, 1924 in St. Louis, MO. He lived in Menard and Sangamon Counties throughout his early years. Russ married Elsie Helen Tippett in Springfield, IL July 10, 1948 at West Side Christian Church in Springfield, IL. They were both Protestant. Elsie passed away on July 23, 2008 at age 85, and sixty years of marriage. To this union two children were born; Russell T. Hill and Susan K. Hill. They moved to St. Pete Beach in 1973.

Russ was a graduate of Lanfier High School, Springfield, IL. He and both brothers proudly served in the US Army and Air Force during World War II. He attended and graduated from Chicago College of Chiropody and Pedic Surgery to become a licensed Podiatrist. He was also a Licensed Sanitary Engineer with the Illinois Dept. of Public Health. . His entrepreneurial calling was awakened which he followed very successfully and sold his medical practice and left the Dept. of Health. Russ first invested in Nursing Homes in Quincy, IL. He later owned and incorporated a chain of nursing centers.  He was also the proud owner of some A&W Drive Ins he bought because he liked the root beer. He also helped to pioneer the mobile diagnostic services to nursing homes covering the entire state of Florida, which became the 3rd largest of its kind in the US. Besides his family, business was his pride and joy. He generously provided donations to all primary religious entities, and other charities, but especially those helping US veterans.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elsie; brothers; Dr. Vincent Rue Hill (June) and Thomas Council Hill (Florence). We take comfort in knowing he has reunited with Elsie, and is now surrounded by God’s love as well as the rest of his heavenly family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Russell “R.T.” Hill (Sharon Ancell) and their son, Joshua Council Hill of Tierra Verde, FL; his daughter, Susan H. Davis (Mark) of Palm Harbor, FL and their two children: Dr. Ashley H. Davis-Yadley (Sloan) and their two sons; and Wesley Hill Davis, all of Florida.; Nephew: Richard A. Hill, Sherwood, OR and his two children; Bruce Vincent Hill (Stephanie) of GA, and Michelle June Hill of Chicago; several special nieces, nephews and cousins. A closed family viewing was held at Beach Memorial Chapel, St. Pete Beach on May 22, 2018. A graveside service will be held with the Minister Dave Beals, of the Williamsville Christian Church officiating at Fancy Creek Cemetery in Sherman, IL.
