Springfield

Eugenia Marie (“Jean”) Henderson, age 97, met Jesus face to face at 6:08 PM on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. The legacy she leaves for us to imitate was one of unwavering FAITH and DEVOTION to Him.

She was born to Tomie and Clara (Kelly) Meredith on November 22, 1928, in Grayson County, KY and they preceded her in death as did her four siblings and their spouses: Lorene (William) Dupin, Louise (Don) Neavill, Orville (Carolyn) Meredith, Merle (Millie) Meredith; her son-in-law, Bill Lash; five nephews and one niece.

Surviving are her only daughter, Cindy Lash and granddaughter, Jennifer (Dmitri) Lash; two nieces, Sally Hill and Marilyn (Rick) Wenneborg; and one nephew, Joe White. Later in life, she was gifted with a “bonus” granddaughter, Amy Lash Esau (Mark) and 2 great grandchildren, Austin and Marisa Esau. To her credit, those who knew and loved her are celebrating her “home going” today. She has left good memories in the hearts of many friends.

Jean grew up in and around Fancy Prairie, IL, graduated from Elkhart High School in 1946, and began her working career at Alvin S. Keyes Insurance Company, International Harvester, Schlitt Supply Company and finally, Black Hardware. She was an accomplished bookkeeper and a stickler for details! In her “golden years”, she enjoyed 14 years at Capitol Retirement Village, 3 years at Illinois Presbyterian Home and spent her last 5 months under the loving care of Regency Nursing Home making lasting friendships wherever she went. Special thanks to Residential Hospice, as well.

She wasn’t much for hobbies because she was a “worker bee”, but boy, did she faithfully follow Jennifer’s “sports career”, her social activities, and church programs. Oh yes, and BINGO at the various facilities where she resided!

She was a faithful Christ follower, worshipping at First Assembly of God and later at West Side Christian Church. Her passion was the Prayer Ministry and Missions, primarily with Myanmar Hope Christian Mission (MyHope) and Missions of Hope (MOHI).

Visitation for Jean will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the time of funeral services at 12:00 Noon at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens with Cindy Lash officiating. Committal services will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville with Rick Wenneborg officiating. For those unable to attend in person, Eugenia’s service will be livestreamed on the Mott & Henning Funeral Home Facebook page.

Memorials may be made to MyHope, 1104 206th St E, Spanaway, WA 98387 or via their secure website: https://myanmarhope.org/donate.
