Lawrence J. Evers, age 90, of Springfield formerly of Greenview, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Lawrence was born on September 24, 1921 in Greenview, IL, son of John and Emma Amerkamp Evers. He graduated from Greenview High School in 1939. He married Darlene Barnett in 1942. His parents, son Vince, a brother Garrett Evers and sisters Ruth McAtee & Marie Setzer preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Darlene, a son David (Susan) Evers of Greenview, a daughter Jane (Greg) Fletcher of Lake Geneva, WI, a daughter-in-law Pat Evers of Greenview. Eight Grandchildren: Lynne (John) Short of Webster Groves, MO.; Clay (Lori) Evers of Greenview; Kristen (Corey) Black of Libertyville, IL; Kevin (Jenny) Fletcher of Mundelein, IL; Marsha (Jamelle) McCreary of Barrington, IL; Randi (Mark) Smith of Madison, WI; Leslie (Mike) Gaughran of Sebastian, FL; and Chad (Elizabeth) Evers of Naperville, IL and 21 Great grandchildren.

He was a prominent farmer in the Greenview area his whole life; president of the board of St. John’s Church where he served as an elder for two terms and treasurer for 18 years; director for 33 years in the National Bank of Petersburg; served as mayor and board member for 10 years in Greenview; president of Greenview School Board for one year; member and director of Shambolee Golf Course; president one year and director and member of Country Hills Golf Course; 50 year member of Greenview Masonic Lodge; member of Ansar Shrine of Springfield and member of New Salem Shrine of Petersburg. Lawrence was an avid Cub Fan and enjoyed playing golf. The winter trips to Florida to meet high school friends and play golf was always special

Visitation will be held at Mott & Henning Funeral Home, in Athens, where friends may call from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday December 14, 2011. Funeral service will be held at The United Greenview Church in Greenview at 10:30AM on Thursday December 15, 2011.

Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the United Greenview Church.
