Gareth L. Golay

Gareth L. Golay, age 87, of Sherman, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Arcadia at Sangamon Valley in Springfield.

He was born on February 4, 1939. in Elgin, Illinois, the son of Hubert and Alice (Goodman) Golay.

Gareth married Myrna Brown on September 1, 1962, at the Sherman United Methodist Church.

She preceded him in death in 2023.

Mourning his passing are three brothers-in-law, Gary (Jill) Brown, Byron (Nancy) Brown and Craig (Donna) Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

He is also preceded in death by his parents.

Gareth graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston with a master’s degree in 1965.

He worked for AT&T as a Computer Programmer.

Gareth was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman.

He served for the US Navy.

Graveside services for Gareth will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Strode Cemetery near Cantrall, IL with Rev. James Stuenkel officiating.
