Goldena “Dede” Hopkins Shanle, passed away on July 3rd, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center.
She is survived by two daughters, Lindsay Shanle of Decatur, IL and Lacey Shanle of Edinburg, IL; grandson, David Lush of Edinburg, IL; two sisters, Joyce Beare (Lee Beare) of Sherman, IL and Cynthia Jones of Springfield, IL; one brother, Billy Hopkins (Kim Hopkins) of Springfield, IL; nieces and nephews, Lisa Beare, Tracey and Ken Irsik, Craig and Kelly Beare, Aimee Beare Hall, and Karry Hopkins. She was also a proud great aunt to many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry Hopkins.
Dede was born on August 15, 1951 to parents Raymond and Geraldine Hopkins. She attended elementary and middle school in Athens, IL and graduated from Lanphier high school in 1969.
She worked for and retired from the State of Illinois.
She was a die hard Cubbies fan and was thrilled to see them win the World Series. She always loved children and was elated to be able to adopt daughters, Lindsay and Lacey. A life-long animal lover, she will be missed by her dogs, Daisy, Heidi, Annie and Chrissy. She was fascinated by genealogy and loved antiques and art.
Visitation for Dede will be held on Saturday, July 15th from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, IL. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM with Reverend Paulette Cott officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Sangamon County Animal Protective League.

Cindy, I am so sorry to hear about DeDe. I know that you and the rest of the family will miss her.
May your memories bring you times of joy, happiness and laughter to get through the coming days and in the future.

Just read od Dede’s passing.
What happened?
No matter what you have heard, or whatever opinions you might have,
I will always miss her. She was one of the biggest parts of my life.
I can’t think of a world without her.
