Springfield – Grace Allen Grant, 90, of Springfield, formerly of Athens, passed away peacefully June 25, 2013 at her residence in Springfield. She was born December 22, 1922 in Watertown, Tennessee the daughter of the late Frank and Vessie (Nettles) Mabry. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1941.

She was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” R. Grant in 2005. She is also preceded in death by her brothers Ben, Claud and Milton Mabry.

She is survived by daughter, Catherine (Patrick) Adler of Dewey, Az; daughter, Barbara Warren of Rochester, Il and son, Robert Mark (Deborah Cavanaugh) of Greenview, Il; a niece Martha Jane Turner of Crossville, TN; and six grandchildren, Bethany (Bogumill) Chapman, Matt Bogumill, Josh Warren, Courtney Warren, Katherine Grant and Shawn Charles and six great grandchildren.

Grace met Bill while he was stationed in Tennessee during WWII. They were married December 30, 1945 when he returned home from Europe and they made a long wonderful life together. Grace was a mother and homemaker who volunteered at the Athens elementary school and served on the PTA while her children attended there. She worked a few years as a book-keeper for the Dairy Rose Restaurant in Springfield. She and Bill enjoyed retirement years traveling to Florida and playing golf. Their home was always the gathering place for family occasions and holidays. She was a member of Athens Christian Church.

Her family would like to add a special thanks to the caregivers from Heart & Hands.

Visitation will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 10 : 11 AM at Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens with funeral services immediately following. Rev. Ken Gennicks will be officiating. Burial will be at Indian Point Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Athens Christian Church.
