Greg Chastain

Greg Chastain, age 54, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday February 3, 2018 at Heritage Health in Springfield.
He was born on January 13, 1964 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Bennie Chastain and Sharon Chastain Thady.
Greg married Kathy Hausaman on September 17, 1988 in Sherman, Illinois.
Greg is survived by his wife Kathy, his children; Blake and Morgan Chastain, mother; Sharon (husband Danny) Chastain Thady, sister; Dawn (husband Jerry) Oltmanns; two nieces, Ashton Oltmanns and Erika Oltmanns Sherertz; and brother-in-law, David (wife Laura) Hausaman.
He is preceded in death by his father, Bennie Chastain in 2004.
He graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, TN with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Greg later worked for Brinks for 10 years as an Armored Car Driver.
He was a member of the Westside Christian Church in Springfield. Greg was also a drummer for several bands in the area.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. An additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 from 10:00 until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.
Memorials can be given to Huntington’s Disease Society of America.

Dear Kathy, Morgan and Blake,
We are so sorry that your Husband and Dad had to depart from life so early. We hope that happy memories comfort you all now and in the future. We are saying prayers for you and the rest of your family.

Dear Chastain family,
I was so shocked and sad to hear about Greg`s passing!
I have so many great memories of Greg going all the way back to his high school years. He was really a kind soul always ready with a smile. I always had the feeling that he was happy, especially when he was beating me at Pool! He will be missed that is for sure.
I wish all of you peace and love. Your family will forever be special to mine.

I am so thankful we got to spend some time with Greg a couple of years ago. I am even more thankful that Greg was a Christian and he is home with the Lord now. My heart is heavy for your loss and I pray for a peace that can only come from the Lord yet – God works it out to the good for those who love God.

I sure will miss Greg but I know that he’s in heaven with Jesus. Greg and I worked together at Brinks for several years and his love and laughter will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Greg’s passing. Seems like not too long ago he was up on the stage drumming away at ACC. Prayers for you and your family.

Wanted to let you know that we are so sorry for your loss. Greg spent a lot of time at our house when he was a young man. We always enjoyed having him. He and my our son Marty were friends. Our love and prayers sent to you. Don Janet and family!
