Harry Holmes

Harry Holmes, age 87, of Williamsville, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016 surrounded by his family.

Harry is survived by his wife, Catherine; one son, Glen (wife Nancy) Holmes of Williamsville; one daughter, Dawn Holmes (companion Mike Kitchens) of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Brian Holmes of Williamsville and Dr. Lisa (husband Rev. Steven Zittergruen) of Milwaukee, WI; three great-grandchildren, Brody Holmes, Soren and Vera Zittergruen; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Lynn and Francis Holmes.

Harry was born June 19, 1929 in Palmyra, Illinois, the son of Glen and Alvena (Sonneborn) Holmes.

Harry married Catherine Wilson on August, 23 1952 in St. Luke’s West Derby in Liverpool, England.

He worked for Thompson Farms and Farmers Elevator in Williamsville.  After retirement, he worked for the village of Williamsville and owned and operated a mowing service.

Harry was a member of American Legion Post #0032 and Burtonwood Alumni Association.

He served for the United States Air Force from September 15, 1950 until September 14, 1954.  Harry was stationed at Burtonwood Air Force Base in Liverpool, England.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 9:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.

Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.
