Alice Edith Henrikson, age 92, of Springfield, passed away on May 31, 2014 at Villa West Healthcare in Sherman.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol (Raymond) Poe of Springfield and Janice (Stan) McMorris of Charleston; five grandchildren, Collette (Joe) Ramirez, Cherrilyn (William) Mayfield, Lance (Angela) Poe, Kelly McMorris, and Bret McMorris; ten great grandchildren, Allie Schultz, Grant Schultz, Christian Schultz, Tyler Ramirez, Ryan Ramirez, Celynn Mayfield, Charles Mayfield, Mason Poe, Ava Poe, and Blaine Poe; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; a son, Philip; a grandson, Shayne McMorris, and two sisters, Lola Brown and Fairy Henrikson; and one brother, Dan Perkins.
Alice was born March 22, 1922 in Frankfort, South Dakota, the daughter of Alvie and Lizzie Perkins. Alice graduated from Williamsville High School in 1940. She married Don Henrikson on November 8, 1941 at the Sherman United Methodist Church, they enjoyed 67 years of marriage and friendship.
She served as financial secretary and historian for the Sherman United Methodist Church for several years. Alice was actively involved with the church serving for many committees and groups, including, building committee, choir, high school bible school teacher, and Women’s Society. She and her husband, Don, served on several mission trips in Florida and Alaska. Alice was also a member of the Home Extension.
She and Don farmed in the Sherman area from 1943 until 1984.
Visitation will be held at Sherman United Methodist Church in Sherman on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Pastor Craig Sweet will be officiating.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery near Illiopolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Transformation Building Committee at the Sherman United Methodist Church.
