Ronnie E. Hughes, age 66, of Athens, IL passed away on September 4, 2013 at his home. He was born February 21, 1947 in Springfield, IL the son of Franklin W. and Evelyn L. Hughes.

He is survived by two daughters Diane Hughes of Athens, Janet (Jason) Hughes-Condrey of Florida,; his mother, Evelyn Welch-Hughes of Springfield, two brothers, Larry (Mary Lois) Hughes of Athens, Roger (Bonita) Hughes of Athens, three sisters, Stephanie (Jack) Geary of Greenview, Pamela (Bob) Rector of Athens, and Twyla (Mike) Baker of Springfield.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rose (Heslin) Hughes, in 2010 and a sister Sandra K. Mangiaforte in 2011, one brother Mark W. Hughes in 1993, and his father Franklin W. Hughes in 1991.

He Graduated from Athens High School in 1965. Upon graduation, he joined the US Navy and served his country for four years aboard the USS Wasp CVS-18.

Ronnie married Mary Rose in Woodside, New York on July 26, 1969 and resided there for 40 years.

He was the Chief Engineer for several prominent buildings in NYC, most recently the Seagram Building.

Ronnie was dedicated to his family and loved by many and will be dearly missed by all.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 2 until 5 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home, 206 N Main St, Athens, IL.

Burial will be at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY.
