James “Jim” A. Kincaid, age 93, of Springfield, formerly of Greenview, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Illinois Presbyterian Home Communities in Springfield, Illinois.
Jim was born on October 7, 1931, in Greenview, Illinois, the son of Paul and Florence (Johnson) Kincaid. He graduated from Greenview High School in 1949.
On April 6, 1956, James married the love of his life, Norma Jean Prince, at Sweetwater Presbyterian Church. They shared nearly 63 wonderful years together before her passing in 2019.
He is survived by his son, Paul (Stephanie) Kincaid; daughter, Lori (Chuck) Hlavach; grandchildren, Jake (Alexis) Hlavach, Molly Kincaid (David Paine), Chelsea (Samuel) Baum, Rachel (Steven) Bland, and Hayley Kincaid; and great-grandchildren, Colton, Theodore, Henry, Sander, and Wilhelmina. He is also survived by his brothers, Victor Kincaid and Lawrence (Linda) Kincaid; sister, Martha Tisdale; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Kincaid.
Jim proudly served in the Air National Guard during the Korean Conflict. He later worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for 26 years, retiring in 1992. He also spent several years working part-time for Central Illinois Ice Company.
He was a proud and active member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Greenview AMVETS, where he played a key role in helping build their facility.
Jim had a deep love of hard work and helping others. He was often the first to show up—tool belt in hand—when someone needed help with a home improvement project. He especially enjoyed mentoring his nephew, George Castles, and took great pride in offering his skills and support.
More than anything, James loved his family. He was a devoted grandfather along with Grandma Jean who attended every event possible from baseball, soccer, diving, and even scholastic bowl. If grandkids were involved, they were there.
The family would like to share their appreciation for the staff at the Illinois Presbyterian Home for becoming his second family to him and providing the best care for Jim.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Mott & Henning Funeral Home is assisting the family. On-line condolences can be shared at www.mottandhenning.com.
