Janice Ishmael, age 76, of Athens, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.

Janice was born December 1, 1944 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of William and Wilma (Montgomery) Davison.

She married Sam Ishmael on June 27, 1965 at the Greenview United Church.

Mourning her passing are her husband, Sam; two sons, Darren (Brittany) Ishmael of Effingham, Chad (Molly) Ishmael of Athens; grandchildren, Gwyn, Davis, and Cole; sister, Judy (Doug) Hawkins of Sherman; and several nieces and nephews.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents.

She graduated from Greenview High School in 1962.  Janice worked as a secretary for Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) for over 50 years.

She loved music, where she played organ and piano and was a gifted vocalist.  Janice was a life member of the Greenview United Church, where she was very active.

She loved watching her grandkids participate in sporting events and riding horses.  Her favorite activity was to be with her grandkids and playing card games with them.  In her quiet time, she enjoyed quilting and watching hummingbirds.

Janice’s favorite holiday was Christmas.

Visitation for Janice will be held on 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 25, 2021 also at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview

Memorials can be made to the Athens Food Pantry or the Athens United Methodist Church.

    I know how much she loved you and was so proud of each of you. There are simply no adequate words I can offer. She has been a kind, caring, compassionate, generous, and patient woman whom I had the privilege of knowing and calling my friend.

    We are so sorry for your loss. We knew her for only a short time, but fell in love with her from the very beginning.
    Sam, we know you have such a great loss, and can only say we are so sorry and hope that you find solace in knowing that she is no longer suffering and is with the Heavenly Father now. We look forward to seeing you in church again, though we will miss her terribly as will all of the others.

  11. There are no words I can say that expresses the sorrow for the loss of such a wonderful person, wife, mother, grandmother and sister. What an honor for us to be part of the family when our daughter married Chad. The times we were together whether at sporting events, school events or holidays will never be forgotten. She and her family will always be in our prayers.

  16. Sam, and family, So sorry to hear about Janice. I wasn’t able to attend the services due to having some medical problems. After reading some of the condolences, she was everything that was said about her. I wasn’t aware of her illness.and will always remember her and the family
