Jerilyn Sue VanMeter, of Springfield, formerly of Athens, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born May 9, 1942 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Neva June (Smith) Conover.
Jerilyn married Charles Richard VanMeter on August 18, 1962 at the Laurel Methodist Church in Springfield. He preceded her in death in 2013.
Mourning her passing are her children, Charles Richard “Charlie” (Dawn) VanMeter Jr., Deborah (Brian) Todd, and Robin (Dave) Burris; ten grandchildren, Ryan (Alyssa) Capranica, Katie (Dan) Musser, Charles Richard “Cory” (Emily) VanMeter III, Nicholas (Ellen) VanMeter, Coady VanMeter, Rachel Todd, Brian “Nate” (Caitlin Ryan) Todd, Alexander (Britni) Burris, Allison (Thomas) Garrett, Abbigayle (Brandon) Ward; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as her special friends.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Judith Ann VanMeter; brother, Stephen Conover; and her parents.
Jerilyn held many jobs throughout her life, but her most important and beloved role was being a mother, grandmother, and GiGi.
She loved playing games, especially card games; and walking the mall with her friends.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Private graveside services will be held at Fancy Creek Cemetery near Sherman.
Memorial contributions can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
