Kathleen Poteet, age 74, of Riverton, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Ebken (companion, Donny Kerber); grandson; Damon Ebken;  mother, Marie Downs; five brothers; Harold, Paul, Darrell, John, and Charles Downs; three sisters, Joanne Wheatley, Marlene Trueblood and Dorothy Downs; and several nieces and nephews.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in August of 2010 and her father.

She was born on March 14, 1942 in Lincoln, Illinois, the daughter of Howard “Red” and Marie (Loomis) Downs.

She married Elmer Poteet on September 4, 1965.

Kathleen graduated from Williamsville High School in 1960.

She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Riverton.  She worked for Horace Mann for forty years.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home, Athens, Illinois

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church in Riverton with a luncheon at the church immediately following burial at the cemetery.

Rev. Father Raphael Paul DeMoreno will be officiating.

Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery, near Williamsville.

Memorials can be made to American Diabetes Association.

  1. I am very surprised to hear about Kathy. I know that she was always at the front of our class reunions and I am sorry to have missed our 50th where I know I would have had a fine conversation with her. My prayers are with her family. Don MacGregor, WHS class of 1960.

  3. I was so sorry to learn of Kathleen’s passing and my heart goes out to all her family and friends. She will be remembered as a sweet and caring lady. She’s in God’s arms now, healthy and whole. Rest in peace, dear sister-in-law.

    We are so sorry for your loss. Kate was a hoot & she will surely be missed.
    I am sorry we won’t be at her service. Thursday, Will had his left kidney removed.
    He had some complications & will be in the hospital probably until Monday.
