H. Dean Lankford, age 84, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife Emma; children, Cynthia (husband Bobby Joe) Mingo of Joplin, MO, Carmen Lankford of Tulsa, OK, Timothy Lankford of Joplin, MO, Christine (husband James) Veith of Stotts City, MO; grandchildren, Tori Ferrantecook, Kiya Ary, Aubri, Mikala, and Colt Veith; great-grandchildren, Sadie and Hunter Brosseau, Josie Ferrantecook; former wife Janet Lankford of Joplin, MO; five step-children, eight step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren of Illinois.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Donald Lankford, Carol Justin Lankford, Richard Lankford; and sister Lila Muriel Jones.

He was born January 22, 1929 in Springfield, Illinois the son of Victor and Hazel Dell (Hinds) Lankford.

He graduated from Enos Grade School, Springfield High School, and Cincinnati Ohio Bible Seminary.

Dean served as a minister in Elizaville, KY; Sardinia, OH; Montazuma and Hampton, IA; Bemidji and Nevis, MN; Cardin, OK; Mt. Auburn and Springfield, IL.

He worked for FAG Bearing Manufacturing Plant in Joplin, MO from October 1973 until his retirement on March 1, 1994.

Dean married Emma Claypool Adams on March 4, 2006.

Dean was a member of the Elm Street Christian Church in Springfield, Illinois.

Visitation will be held at Elm Street Christian Church in Springfield, on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 where friends may call from 10 AM until 11 AM with services immediately following with Minister Seth Shauntz officiating.

Mott & Henning Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Burial will be held at Farmer’s Point Cemetery near Tallula.

Memorials can be made to the Elm Street Christian Church, 3020 East Elm Street, Springfield, IL 62702 or Hands of Compassion, 840 West Center Street, Rochester, MN 55902.

  4. Dean Lankford will always be lovingly remembered by two people who shared so many wonderful times with him and his family. He was a dynamic preacher of the word and had a beautiful voice to praise the Lord. We laughed together, prayed together, and enjoyed countless meals together. Later years and confusion brought sadness into his life and although we did not understand his choices and the path he chose to take our savior knew his heart. Welcome home, Dean.
