Lena Mae Holt, age 91, of Springfield, formerly of Greenview, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 after a brief illness.
She was born September 29, 1932 in Greenview, Illinois, to Everett and Ruby (Conn) Cooper. She was raised in Greenview and graduated from Greenview High School in 1951.
Lena married Ewing Edwin Holt on June 7, 1952 in Greenview, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2008.
In addition to her husband, Lean Mae was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Noah Wayne, Perry Spencer, Bill Warren, John Harlan, and Harry Lee Cooper, as well as several sisters-in-law. She is survived by daughter, Melanie (Gregg) Humphrey; son, Dion Holt; grandsons, William Otis Humphrey II, Alexander Schaefer Humphrey, and Jack-Ewing Edwin Holt. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, one sister-in-law, Louise Cooper, and numerous friends, including her many friends at Capitol Retirement Village.
She was a member of the Sweetwater Christian Church and later attended Westside Christian Church in Springfield.
Lena Mae had an unmistakable laugh that she was quick to share – we will really miss that laugh. She had a number of adventures in her younger years, including flight attendant school in Texas, although her height prevented her from that career. At various times she worked at Franklin Life, Lincoln Center Gifts, White Hen Pantry and Food Fantasies. However, she often said her most enjoyable time was being at home with her children when they were young. She served as a leader for their scouting troops and encouraged everything they wanted to do. The joy of her children was topped only by the arrival of her grandsons.
Visitation for Lena will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023 from 9:00 until time of funeral services at 10:30 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Burial will be held at Sugar Grove Cemetery near Sweetwater immediately after the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Capitol Retirement Village; 500 N. Bruns Lane; Springfield, IL 62702.
Mott & Henning Funeral Home is assisting the family. On-line condolences can be shared at www.mottandhenning.com.

Melanie and Dion, so sorry about your Mom. I know she has to be such a great lost to you and your kids. She was one of the best. Everyone is talking about her laugh and that is one thing I remember about her too. I was fortunate to get to know your Grandma Ruby and being from Sweetwater they knew all my family because that’s where my Dad and family lived. She was a great help to me many times being newly married and then a new Mother. Will never forget her and you two growing up. Thoughts and Prayers and Smiles to all. Love, Kay

Melanie and Dion, you were blessed with such a wonderful mother. I remember so many great things about her. She was funny. She was kind. She had a great laugh. She loved her family dearly. She loves to shop at secondhand stores. I used to run into occasionally. I remember her extensive owl collection all over the house in Green acres. I know you will miss her. She’s finally going to be with Eddie. My condolences to all of you. 🙏❤️
