Ronald “Sonny” Lott age 81, of Athens, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg, IL.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lori (Zack) Freeman of Athens, and Julie (Jim) Thomas of Athens; grandchildren Erin (Phillip) Ellison, Elisha (James) Leopard, Haley Freeman, Wyatt Lott Freeman, Chris Thomas, Dane Freeman, Kyle Thomas; 3 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and a sister Dorles (Faye) Wirth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Angie Lott, and a brother Charles Lott.
Sonny was born, May 31, 1933 in Athens, the son of Charles and Lula Lott. He married Joyce Rath in 1954 at the Christian Church in Springfield, IL. Sonny served his country in the United States Army in Fairbanks, AK from 1955 until 1957.
He had several businesses throughout the years which included dealing in calves, owning a cheese business, trading in farm implements and selling antiques. This all led up to his life long passion of owning and racing harness horses.
More importantly than what he did, was who he was and what he stood for. Sonny devoted his life to his family and friends and enjoyed nothing more than a good conversation as long as you agreed with him. He will be missed by many.
Rev. Ken Gennicks will be officiating.
Visitation will be held from 10 : 11 AM on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home, in Athens, IL with funeral services to follow at 11 AM.
Burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
