Louie E. Murry

Louie Murry, age 88, of Sherman, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 14, 1938 in Tamaroa, Illinois the son of Xelpho and Gertie Murry.

Louie married Sara Milburn on September 6, 1958.

Mourning his passing are his wife, Sara; one daughter, Tami (Harold) Sebring; one brother, Keith (Sue) Murry; two grandchildren, Sarah (Jen) Adkison and Buck (Missy) Sebring; 14 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by both parents; one son, Craig; three brothers, Billy (Jean) Murry, Benny (Shirley) Murry and Bobby (Carole) Murry; and one sister, Mary Lou (Lowell) Dauksch.

He graduated from DuQuoin High School where he received the American Farmer Degree and a proud moment of his is when his FFA team won the national judging contest and the showmanship contest.

Louie worked for the State of Illinois – Department of Public Aid where he was in charge of the data processing units retiring in 1991. He worked security for over 20 years for the Illinois State Fair and the farm progress show for over 10 years. He also enjoyed working for local farmers for several years.

He was a former member of the Sherman Athletic Club, Williamsville School Board and was a current member of Westside Christian Church.

Louie loved taking care of his yard and garden, he pitched fast pitch softball and had a passion for hunting, fishing and trapping.

Visitation for Louie will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

Rev. Shane Baker will be officiating.

Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.

Memorial contributions can be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
