Marie A. Lyons, age 99, of Athens passed away on March 4, 2017 at Mason City Area Nursing Home.
She is survived by her children Donna Smith, Judy Hedrick, Larry (Janet) Lyons and John (Judy) Lyons; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin in 1990, as well as two sisters, Minnie Lyons and Martha Dosier; six brothers, Bill, Fritz, Paul, John, Carl and Alfred Hintz; two son in laws; Billy Smith and Art Hedrick.
Marie was born on June 22, 1917 in Manito, IL the daughter of Carl and Anna Krueger – Hintz.
She married Marvin Lyons on April 17, 1939.
Marie was a homemaker her entire life.
Marie was a member of the Athens Immanuel Lutheran Church and she was also a member of the Ladies Aide.
She loved gardening, cooking for her family and enjoyed sending her family cards.
Visitation for Marie will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Athens Immanuel Lutheran Church from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM. Funeral service will immediately follow at 10:00 AM.
Burial will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
Rev. Richard Becker will be officiating.
Memorials can be given to Athens Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sunny Acres Nursing Home or Mason City Area Nursing Home.

My sincere condolences to the friends and family of Marie. Sophie and I visited her at St John’s Hospital. I had no idea she was 99 because she was so aware of herself and surroundings. Bless her heart.
