Marilyn “MJ” Johnson, age 73, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
She was born on November 2, 1950 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Lloyd and Mildred (Devocelle) Hinch.
Mourning her passing are her daughter, Kim Johnson; cousin, David and Nancy Fuchs, and Carol (Derek) Squires; several other cousins; and many “adopted” children and friends.
She is preceded in death by a brother, Ed Hinch; sister, Eilleen Cowan; brother-in-law, Harry Cowan; grand-puppy, Fire Puppy; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Marilyn graduated from Greenview High School in 1968.
She retired from the Greenview School District in 2018 after 20 years as a bookkeeper.
Marilyn loved to crochet, crafts, flower gardening, cooking, and painting rocks. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She will forever be remembered for famous caramels and fried chicken.
Marilyn’s favorite holiday was Christmas, when she loved to decorate her and her daughter’s homes with beloved Christmas décor collected over the years with a flock of Christmas trees.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Visitation for Marilyn will be held from 10:00 AM until time of memorial service at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.
Burial of cremains will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Protective League, Gift of Hope, or American Heart Association.
