Mark Dwain Slavens of Greenview, Illinois passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2026.
Mark was a doting father to his daughter Shelby and enjoyed spending most of his extra time teaching her things that were down - right scary to her mom. Mark was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast whose interest/passions went from motocross racing with his brothers to road racing and finally becoming a grand national champion in his class. He enjoyed rock climbing and nature in general.
He was a man of many talents and had projects going for most of his life. After he decided he was “too old” for road racing, he wanted to become a pilot, always loved the idea of flying his own airplane and he built an experimental N3 Pup, which looked like a little yellow Piper cub airplane. He eventually was able to obtain a Cessna 120 which had been damaged in a storm, he with the help of good friends made that into a completely new airplane, which he enjoyed flying around Central Illinois. He tolerated and sometimes encouraged all of Deana’s craziness, even built her a barn! He left his body on his own terms. In the way he wanted.
Mark is survived by his life partner in crime Deana Poe, their daughter Shelby Poe Warnick and her husband Ryan Warnick, grandchildren Madison Warnick, Mason Warnick, and Alex Warnick. Shelby's brother Corey (Gina) Sheurman, their kids Dalton Sheurman and Mariska Sheurman. His brothers Reggie (Sam) Slavens, Jeff (Sue) Slavens as well as nephews, nieces and great nieces.
Cremation rights were performed, Mark will be with all of us in spirit forever.
