Mary Hanson, age 77, of Nashville, TN, formerly of Greenview, IL, passed away on October 21, 2022 peacefully at home with her daughters.

She was born November 11, 1944 in Louisville, KY the daughter of George & Margaret Massie Simpson.

Mary wed Robert L. Hanson on August 26, 1967 in Louisville, KY.

Mourning her passing are her daughters, Stephanie (Craig) Boaz, Lucy Hanson Schrage, and Anne Hanson Mambungu; granddaughter, Maggie Schrage, and three grandsons, Zane Schrage, Wyatt Schrage, and John Boaz; sisters, Mardi Simpson Crosser, Jessie Simpson Jackson, and sister-in-law Carolyn Hanson Bell; nephews, Rob (Amy) Crosser, Mike (Adrienne) Crosser; nieces, Jessica Jackson, Shandi (Jeff) Hilliard, Heather (Aaron) Burris; and many great nieces, nephews, and beloved bonus family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert L. Hanson; parents George and Margaret

Simpson, and bonus mom Martha Tarry Simpson; brother-in-law Don Crosser; and nephew Joe Crosser.

Mary was a graduate of Shelby County High school ’62 in Kentucky; a proud alum of Maryville College ’66 Maryville TN, and attended Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY.

Mary held employment until her retirement at The State of Illinois Comptrollers Office, and also enjoyed working for Gloria Jeans Coffee, and Greenview Community Schools.

Mary’s musical talents were many and diverse. A natural musician from early childhood, Mary greatly enjoyed sharing her faith and ministry of music through arranging songs for HIS choir, senior Choir, and bell choir performances as well as various duets and accompaniments. For many years Mary dearly enjoyed sharing in music leadership with Alice Miller, Janice Ishmael, and Donna Simmering at the Greenview United Presbyterian Church. In addition to her musical talents, Mary had the beautiful gift of prayer and was lead to lift others up whatever their circumstances might have been.

Cremation rites were accorded.

Visitation for Mary will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at the Greenview United Presbyterian Church from 10:00 AM until time of memorial services at 12:00 PM. Graveside service will follow immediately at Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview IL.

Mary had a charitable heart, memorial contributions can be made in Mary’s name to Maryville

College, Maryville, TN and the Greenview United Presbyterian Church, Greenview, IL.

She shared a lot with me. I know your Mom and Dad are together in heaven.
