Mary Ruth Yager

Mary R. Yager, age 86, of Athens, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 8, 1935 in Oblong, Illinois, the daughter of Milo and Rachel (Miller) Banning.
Mary married Merl Yager on February 23, 1952.
Mourning her passing are three sons, Karl (Bonnie) Yager, Wayne (Marilyn) Yager, and Danny (Cheryl) Yager; two daughters, Carolyn Snider and Vickie Zimmerman; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Merl; a son, Randy; and son-in-law, Jack Snider.
Mary achieved her GED in her early 60’s. She raised six children.
She helped organize and was a member of the New Life Baptist Church in Athens.
After her children grew up, Mary’s hobbies included word search books, watching St. Louis Cardinals games, and watching game shows on television.
A visitation for Mary will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Oblong Cemetery in Oblong, Illinois.
Memorial contributions can be given to New Life Baptist Church or Athens BLS.

To Wayne and other family members, I send my deepest condolences. I remember your mother from the early days of New Life Baptist Church; she was sweet and kind. May happy memories bring you comfort.
