Mary Wells

Mary Wells, age 87, of Athens, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at her residence.

She was born on April 24, 1938, in Athens, Illinois, the daughter of Stanley and Mary (Brackhan) Wasilewski.

She married Charles Wells on November 18, 1961, in Athens, Illinois.

Mourning her passing are her children, Rodney (Bev Long) Wells, Eric (Sunny) Wells, and Kathleen (Jason) Teckenbrock; grandchildren, Clint, Morgan, Anna, Jake, Charley, and Jesse; great-grandchild, Weston; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; four brothers, James, Larry, Robert, and John Wasilewski; and three sisters, Phyllis Kneedler, Carol Baugher, and Winifred Tobias.

Mary graduated from Athens High School in 1956.

She was employed with Illinois Bell Telephone Company and the Cooperative Extension Service before later dedicating many years as a homemaker.

Mary was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Athens.

She enjoyed sewing, crafting, gardening, working in her yard, and birdwatching. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Ronna Lewis and Janet Foraker for taking special care of Mary in her later years.

Visitation for Mary will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 9:30 AM until time of funeral mass at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Athens. Burial will be held immediately after the mass at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens. Following the burial, a reception will be held at the Athens Christian Church.
