Paul Evan Miller of Athens passed away on Thursday May 6, 2010 at St John’s Hospice in Springfield from complications of pneumonia. He was born in Springfield on August 30, 1936 to Roy K. and Thelma Joyce Harris Miller of Fancy Prairie.
Evan married Maudene Pope on November 9, 1956 at the Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield. She survives with their three children, son Michael Miller, wife Kayoko and their daughters Holly and Moriah of Yorktown, Va.; daughter Linda Miller, her children Courtney Halford and a grand daughter Savannah Halford, of Riverton and son BJ Halford and wife Kate of Sherman; and her partner Jeannine Zinck, of Springfield; and Paula Miller, husband Rick and their daughters Grace and Faith of Sierra Leone, Africa. His sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peggy and Richard Leach of Morris, IL, two nieces, a nephew, cousins and many, many friends.
Evan was a member of the Athens Christian where he served as a deacon. He served as a Menard County Commissioner from 2002-2006, and was a member of the Menard County Tourism Council. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Athens, the Ansar Shrine, where he was a member of the Clown unit and also the Classic Car unit. He also belonged to the Central Illinois Mustangers and the Route 97 Cruisaders. He served on boards for several organizations in Athens and Petersburg. His love of cars, Ford and Mustang, was well known by friends and family. Evan enjoyed being with family, camping, reading, and traveling. He and Maudene especially enjoyed doing volunteer work with the NOMADS, a volunteer group affiliated with the Methodist Church, traveling to locations in the southern and southwestern part of the U.S. in the winter months.
He owned Evan Miller Insurance Agency in Springfield where he worked as an agent for Farmers Insurance Group for over 50 years, he received many awards and honors in those years. However, most important to him was the people he was able to help and the friends he made through this business.He also owned Miller Insurance Agency in Athens.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 until 7:00 PM at the Athens Christian Church. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM also at the Athens Christian Church. Burial immediately following at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.
