Monte Yard, age 54, of Sherman, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023 at his residence.

Monte was born January 9, 1969 in  Springfield, Illinois, the son of Gary and Sandy (Polistina) Yard.

He married Jolyn Dixon on February 16, 1991 in Riverton, Illinois.

Mourning his passing are his wife, Jolyn; daughters, Alexandra and Rylie; mother, Sandy Yard; brother, Troy (Tammy) Yard; parents-in-law, Gary and Beverly Wells; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews; beloved friends and neighbors; and many special co-workers.

He is preceded in death by his father, Gary; and father-in-law, Joe Dixon; grandparents, Mott and Doris Polistina and Chancy and Helen Yard.

Monte graduated from Mt. Pulaski High School in 1987.  He later graduated from Lincoln Technical Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He started working for Machinery Inc. in St. Louis for ten years as a mechanic.  When he moved back to Sherman, he started as a heavy equipment operator for Henderson Construction.  Four years ago Monte started his own company, Monte Yard Excavating.

Monte was a member of IUOE Local #965.

He played golf, enjoyed swimming, mowing lawns, and cooking and especially grilling food. He loved being a softball dad.  Monte loved his puppies, Dozer and Tink (even though he said he did not want the dogs).

Monte was loved by everyone he ever met and loved everyone he ever met.  He had a smile that lasted forever.  He loved to tell stories and make himself laugh.  Monte worked hard, played hard, and loved hard.

Visitation for Monte will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Williamsville Christian Church.  Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville after the services.  Rev. David Beals will be officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society or to the Williamsville Christian Church.
