Nancy Kathleen Thompson

Nancy Kathleen Thompson was born March 16, 1939 to Lawrence and Agnes Grant.

She grew up in Athens, IL, where she attended school and church for many years.

She later married Bronnie Jones and had five children: Vicki Jones, Rebecca Jones (Matt), Lawrence Jones (Linda), Randy Jones, and Mike Jones.

Nancy was a generous, funny, jokester. She loved to laugh, was always smiling, and would often say, “Keep your chin up,” during tough times.

She loved the beach. She moved to Jacksonville, FL, where she lived until 2016, and fished, searched for seashells, and collected sharks’ teeth. She was adventurous and fun to be around.

Nancy loved to watch ghost shows and travel. She traveled the US and other countries with Kenneth Thompson, who she was married to until his death in 2006.

Nancy passed away quietly in her daughter’s home in New Bern, NC on July 25, 2025. She lived there for nine years after suffering several strokes that left her in need of constant care.

Vicki did this lovingly and with unwavering commitment until Nancy left us.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law, Leann and Robert Garmers.

She leaves to mourn: her children; ten grandchildren, Erin, Ian, Amber, Chris, Anthony, Corey, Shawn, Savanna, Kayla, Kenneth; five great-grandchildren; four nieces; and a host of other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in Nancy's honor.

The service will be Sunday, August 3, and open only to family.
