Mary Nickell, age 55, of Athens, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 at her home. She is survived by her husband Ron; three daughters Emily, Katy, and Molly Rand; three step-daughters Kayla Rankin, Rita and Rachael Nickell; one grandson Colin Adams; one step-granddaughter Elizabeth Bazylak, two brothers Jim (Gwen) Bloms of Wisconsin and John (Wadene) Bloms of Colorado; one sister Ann (Scott) Korthof of Wisconsin; and several nieces, nephews, & friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents Maurice and Patricia (Rausch) Bloms.

She was born February 28, 1958 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and grew up on a dairy farm near Farming, MN.

She married Ron Nickell on June 28, 2003 at their home in rural Athens, IL.

Mary received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1980, and her second Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Millikin University in 2009 with a 4.0 GPA. She was employed at CMW Associates in Springfield for the past five years. Mary & Ron started the Coyote Run Buffalo Ranch in 2002.

Mary loved to be outdoors doing various activities, such as, snow skiing, boating, canoeing, boot hockey, and gardening. She enjoyed cooking for her family, listening to classic rock & blues. She loved NFL Football & cheering for her Minnesota Vikings.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Athens Christian Church from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held at the Athens Christian Church at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 26, 2013.

Rev. Ken Gennicks will be officiating.

Burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.

Memorials can be made to American Cancer Society.

  1. I worked for CMW & Associates for a year and was hired by Mary. She was a very sweet lady and made working for CMW a pleasure. I am very sad to hear of her passing.
