Paul James “Jim” Davis, age 78, of Athens, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

He was born May 11, 1944 in Alton, Illinois, the son of Paul B. and Laura (Eckerdt) Davis.

Jim married Jean Young Settles on September 12, 1999 and she preceded him in death in 2019. They spent over 19 wonderful years together.

Mourning his passing are his brother, Michael (wife Ilah) Davis; nieces and nephew, Myles E. Davis (fiancé Melody Malone), Michelle (husband Jason) Roloff; great-nieces and nephews, Cade Michael Davis, Brianna Roloff, and Blythe Roloff; Jean’s son, Bill (wife Annette) Settles;  step grandchildren and his companion, Mary Lou Portell & family.

He is also preceded in death by his parents and Jean’s other son, Dennis Settles.

Jim was a member of Living Faith Baptist Church in Sherman and Christian Motorcycle Association.  He loved playing his guitar.  He would travel hours just to meet his family and friends for a meaningful meal.  Jim was a motorcycle enthusiast, who owned many bikes, but his latest bike “Big Ugly” was one of his most treasured possession.

Jim served for the United States Navy from June of 1965 until June of 1971.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 10:00 until time of memorial services at 11:30 AM at Living Faith Baptist Church in Sherman, Illinois.

Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Christian Motorcycle Association or Living Faith Baptist Church.
