Joseph Powell, Sr., age 88, of Quincy, formerly of Sweetwater, died Friday July 4, 2008 at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy.

Surviving by:Wife – Della Three Sons : Ronald of Athens – Joseph (Angie) of Camp Point – Kevin (Kathy) of Garland, TX Three Daughters : Susan Elkins of Tunnel Hill – Beverly (Harry) Wilson of Sweetwater – Joanna Burton of Petersburg 23 Grandchildren 51 Great-grandchildren

Mr. Powell was born August 14, 1919 in Athens, IL the son of Amos and Daisy Litherland Powell.

Preceded in death by a son, Stephen, his parents, 4 Brothers and 4 Sisters.

He worked 22 years at Allis Chalmers and 16 years at the Peabody Coal Mine in Springfield.

He was a member of the Eagles Club and a life time member of Amvets.

He served in the US Army Air Corps.

Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM Monday, July 7, 2008 at the Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Services will be on Tuesday, July 8 at 10:30 AM.
