Richard “Rick” Abeln , age 55, of Petersburg, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Rick was born November 4, 1964 in Springfield, the son of James and Harriett (Beccue) Abeln.

He is survived by his two sons, Matthew (wife Minda) Abeln and Joseph (wife Mackenzie) Abeln; mother, Harriett of Athens; and two grandchildren, Malakai and Maverick Abeln.

Rick is preceded in death by his father, Jim in 2015.

He loved racecars, building his own various racecars, and cooking and smoking meats.
Rick created his own line of barbeque sauces.

He was a union carpenter for over 35 years, was a great handyman for many people, and was an excellent welder.

Visitation for Rick will be held on Monday, August 10, 2020 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Private family funeral services will be held.
