Ronald “Ron” Griffin, age 68, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Ronald was born on November 9, 1957 in Springfield, IL, the son of Floyd and Delores (Hawkins) Griffin.

Mourning his passing are his children, Cortney (Jason) Graham, Gabe (Mea) Griffin; grandchildren, Jacob Graham, Zachary Graham, Charlotte Meeley, Thomas Griffin, Gabriel M. Griffin, Helena Griffin, and Jonah Griffin; brother, Rodney Griffin.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Ron graduated from Springfield High School in 1975 and went on to work as an HVAC Technician. He was a longtime proud member of Local 137.

He was a sports fan through and through. Whether he was out on the golf course, cheering on his Chicago Cubs, or rooting for the Fighting Illini basketball team, he was always up for a good game. But his favorite teams of all were the ones his grandchildren played on. He was their biggest fan and rarely missed a game, always cheering them on from the sidelines!

Private graveside services will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens, where Ron will be laid to rest alongside his parents, Floyd and Delores. A Celebration of Life honoring Ron and the memories he leaves behind will be held on November 3, 2026 at Lincoln Greens Golf Course at 2:30 pm.
