Rosemary McKee, age 83, of Athens, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

She was born August 11, 1939 in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of Samuel and Myra (Sackett) Fleming.

Rosemary married Melburn “Gene” McKee on March 14, 1969 in Petersburg, Illinois.

Mourning her passing are her husband, Melburn “Gene” of Athens; two sons, Dr. Chris (wife Dr. Jessica) McKee of Columbus, OH and Michael McKee of Athens; granddaughters, Emilie McKee and Brooke McKee; daughter-in-law, Missy McKee; step-granddaughter, Aeren (husband Colin) Cliburn; two brothers, Rick Fleming of Phoenix, AZ and Don Fleming of Springfield, MO; two sisters, Ellen (husband John) Marrow of Atascadero, CA and Joanne (Brian) Collins of Kenosha, WI; brother-in-law, Roger (Janice) of Springfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by an infant son, Charles; sister, Maxine Santerford; and brother, Ed Fleming.

Rosemary graduated from Bradford High School in Kenosha, WI.  She later graduated from Graham Hospital Nursing School and College of St. Francis with a Bachelor of Science Degree.

She then worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), serving as a nurse in Vietnam during the Vietnam war earning a Vietnam Service Medal.

After returning from Vietnam, Rosemary worked at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield for over 30 years.  Rosemary earned the West Central Region Continuity of Care Award in 1991, a recognition from State of Illinois General Assembly.

Rosemary was a member of Holy Family Church in Athens, Illinois.

She loved reading and especially spending time with her grandchildren and nursing school friends.

The McKee family would like to thank Kathy Glenn for the kindness and care she provided throughout Rosemary’s illness.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

Visitation for Rosemary will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 11:00 AM until time of funeral mass at 12:00 Noon at Holy Family Church in Athens.  Burial of cremains will be held immediately after services at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.

Memorial contributions can be made to Holy Family Church in Athens.
