Clara Grant Link Sherette, 82, of Springfield passed away Sunday, January 23 at her home.
She was born in Cantrall, Ill., the daughter of George and Jeanette Chandler, on Aug. 6, 1928. She married Deldon R. Grant (deceased) Sept. 7, 1946. They had five children, Clara Jean Grant Krueger (Robert)- of Thayer; children Deldon and Jennifer. Deldon B. Grant (Patty) of Petersburg; children Aubrey, Lauren and Lindsey. Tina Grant Knollenberg of Springfield; children Timothy (TJ) and Emily. Tammy Grant Mittlestaedt of Chicago; children Laura and Grace. Son, Terry Grant, preceded her in death; children Carla, Deanna, Mitzi and Stephanie. She had several great grandchildren, two nephews and one niece.
She married Les Link in 1977. He preceded her in death. In 1997 she married Marvin Sherrette. He preceded her in death in February 2008.
Clara graduated from Athens High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg and attended Chatham Presbyterian Church. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Petersburg Chapter. She was a resident of Hickory Glen Community where she had several friends and was involved in many activities.
Family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. Chatham Presbyterian Church, 1835 E. Walnut, Chatham, Il . The service will be officiated by Rev. Joseph H. Eby, pastor of Chatham Presbyterian Church.
Burial will follow at a later date in Hall Cemetery, Athens, IL.

It has been my pleasure and honor to know Clara for the past three years while working at Hickory Glen, where she lived. She always had a smile and a hug for me and the time I spent talking with her was almost always the high point of my day. She always told me that she felt as though she was surrounded by angels. I hope that she’s one of mine now.
