Bryce Nelson Smith of Greenview, IL passed away on December 13, 2013 at his home.

Bryce is survived by his wife Joy, two sons Larry (Deborah) of Greenview, Norman (Martha) of Gallatin, TN, a daughter Evelyn of Greenview, & a sister Nelda Schlak of

Arizona; two grandchildren Eric and Andrea Smith; a step-grandson Mark; a great granddaughter, Cierra and great grandson, Ben; and several step-great grandchildren and one step-great great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Rachel, Mildred & Eva and five brothers George, Melvin, Stanley, Raeburne & Dale.

He was born August 3, 1921 near Divernon, IL, the son of Fredrick V. and Bessie M. Smith.

He married Joy Mortimer at the bride’s home on September 27, 1946 at Virden.

Bryce graduated from Virden High School in 1939. He was a member of Greenveiw United Church & a lifetime member of Greenview AMVETS Post #179. He was also a 50 year member of the Greenview Lodge #653 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. Bryce was a World War II veteran serving in the South Pacific for two years. After returning from the war, he worked for Rural Electric Association, and farmed in the Greenview area for 48 years.

In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and raising Belgian draft horses.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 9 AM until time of funeral service at 11 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, IL.

Rev. Stephanie McCullough will be officiating.

Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview.

Memorials can be made to Greenview United Church.

Family is being served by Mott & Henning Funeral Home, in Athens, IL.
