Steven Hamilton, age 75, of Athens, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
He was born on October 3, 1949 in Ottumwa, Iowa the son of George and M. Marie Hamilton.
Steve married Rebecca on December 18, 1971 in Burlington, Iowa.
Mourning his passing are his wife, Becky; daughters, Sandra (Richard) Preston, Susanne Hamilton, Stacy (Ray) Arnold; five grandchildren, Quinlin (Emily), Edward (Kayla), Joshua, Evan (Gabrielle) and Sophia; two great grandchildren, Edward and Ella; two brothers, Phillip and David; as well as many other loving extended family members.
He is preceded in death by both parents.
Steve served in the Navy from 1967-1971 before joining the Illinois Air National Guard. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant after 31 years of committed service during which he received many awards and decorations.
Steve was an involved husband and father, participating along with Becky in multiple activities in which their daughters were involved. He was also extremely active in the community as a charter member of the Athens Lions Club, an Athens Park Board member and City Alderman, a contributing member of Young Heroes, and a leading member of multiple wildlife organizations.
Steve was an avid outdoorsman spending many hours with friends or alone in the timber hunting or on a lake or ocean fishing. He was generous to everyone and could always be counted on for a helping hand.
A visitation for Steve will be held on Thursday, April 17th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, IL. Graveside services will be held at Camp Butler on Friday, April 18th at 11 AM.
Memorial contributions for Steve can be given to the Athens Lions Club or Menard County Ducks Unlimited.
