Theila Marie Shetler

Theila Marie (Bowman) Shetler, aged 85, passed away May 5, 2023 at her home in Springfield, Illinois. She was born December 4, 1937 in Oneida, New York, the daughter of James Lewis Bowman (1901 – 1966) and Esther Stanton (1901 – 1986).
Surviving is her son Christopher, daughter-in-law Nelida, and granddaughter Emily of Springfield, Illinois; her sister Elsie Wethington (husband Lawrence “Virgil”) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and several nieces and nephews living in the United States and Peru.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gene (1933 – 2011).
She graduated from Canastota High School, Canastota, New York and earned a degree in Elementary education from Oswego State University, Oswego, New York .
She retired from Walmart in 2011 after 21 years of service.
Her favorite things to do were reading, spending time with her granddaughter, and finding stories about her ancestors.
Theila was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3601 Buckeye Dr., Springfield, IL. Interment will be held at Farmington Cemetery near Pleasant Plains.

En ésta etapa tan difícil que tenemos que experimentar, quiero expresar mi sentido pésame por la muerte de la querida Theila Marie Shetler, qué nuestro Padre Celestial la acoja y llene de fortaleza a toda su familia.

Se que en estos momentos es tan doloroso para toda la familia , la gran perdida de la Mamá Theila, pero saben ella es un Ángel , que ahora está compartiendo con Padre celestial y que será el ángel que los cuidara y los protegerá siempre, ,,,,,desde acá de Perú estamos con ustedes y les envío mis condolencias mía y de toda mi familia…..Un abrazo grandotote y de corazón. Mucha fortaleza y resignación a toda la Familia Chris, Rocío y Emily.

Querida familia Shetley Rodriguez, es muy doloroso para la familia aceptar la partida de la mon Theila, pero sentimos la resignación al saber que goza de la gloria del señor, y que muy pronto viviremos para siempre al lado de ella y de todos nuestros familiares que partieron. Su partida nos trae a la memoria aquellos momentos que compartimos en Perú y cuando visitamos su casa en Illinois, mon Theila preparaba ricas comidas y postres, nos hacia sentir como sus hijas. Lloramos su partida al recordar los momentos compartidos con ella, la extrañaremos mucho no tenerla nuevamente por perú, pero sabemos que su presencia espiritual estará por siempre con nosotras. Pido al padre celestial mucha fortaleza y serenidad para su hijo mi cuñado Chrisito, mi sobrina Emilita y mi hermana Rocío. Comparto su dolor y estoy con ustedes en su angustia familia Shetler Rodriguez.

Chris and Chio, we have received the sad news of Mom Theila’s departure to the presence of God the Heavenly Father, we join in the pain you are going through, now that she is close to our creator, I am sure she will watch over you, I thank God the opportunity to have met her and have spent pleasant moments together with my family, a lot of strength and resignation, a big hug.

Chris Chio y Emily cuanto lo siento por el fallecimiento de Mamá Theila tuve la suerte de conocerla se que ella desde donde esté será su ángel protector que velará por uds. Y nuestro Padre Celestial la tendrá en su santo reino gozando del descanso eterno y la luz perpetua brillará para siempre .

Oh, my goodness, what a shock!
I am so grateful to have seen, talked n embrace Theila, not knowing her time was up!
Dear Shetler family, the Lord is always in charge.
The Gospel gives us comfort and peace when we see a loved one departing from this earth!
May the Lord bless you always, until you meet Theila again.

Chris – I am so very sorry for your loss. We are never ready to lose our parents and their presence in our lives is always missed. My Dad passed in November and I miss him every day. I hope that the memories you have of your loving times together and the wisdom about life she imparted to you will provide you a sense of comfort and ease the pain that comes with grieving. We will certainly sing on Friday night, remembering your Mom.

I had many, many great times with Theila. She was a good friend and very interesting to spend time with. She loves her Heavenly Father and her Savior Jesus Christ with her whole heart. She was always striving to do what they would want her to do ♥️ Darlene and I were her ministering sisters and we always loved visiting her and helping if we could. After Darlene went to be with the Lord, I was not as diligent as I should have been and for that I am truly sorry. I will miss her till we meet again. ♥️

Sandy Cooley gave us the news of Thelia’s passing this Sunday evening. You are such a fine son to have taken good care of your Mother, The last time I saw Thelia was at a Stake Family History Discovery Day, at the Springfield Illinois Stake Center. She was off to a class where she could learn more about searching for information on her/your Ancestors. We are glad to have known her, and for the time your family was with us in the Litchfield Branch. May you be Blest with the Peace that only our Savior can give.
