Theila Marie Shetler

Theila Marie (Bowman) Shetler, aged 85, passed away May 5, 2023 at her home in Springfield, Illinois. She was born December 4, 1937 in Oneida, New York, the daughter of James Lewis Bowman (1901 – 1966) and Esther Stanton (1901 – 1986).

Surviving is her son Christopher, daughter-in-law Nelida, and granddaughter Emily of Springfield, Illinois; her sister Elsie Wethington (husband Lawrence “Virgil”) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and several nieces and nephews living in the United States and Peru.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gene (1933 – 2011).

She graduated from Canastota High School, Canastota, New York and earned a degree in Elementary education from Oswego State University, Oswego, New York .

She retired from Walmart in 2011 after 21 years of service.

Her favorite things to do were reading, spending time with her granddaughter, and finding stories about her ancestors.

Theila was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3601 Buckeye Dr., Springfield, IL.  Interment will be held at Farmington Cemetery near Pleasant Plains.
