Velma Claypool, age 87, of New Berlin, Illinois, passed away on Monday September 14, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 13, 1939, in Hettick, Il, the daughter of John and Myrtle Wilson.
Velma married Donald Claypool on September 15, 1956 in Corinth, MS. He preceded her in death in January of 2026.
Mourning her passing are her children, Debbie (husband James) Corbin, Peggy Thompson, Terry (wife Debbie) Claypool, Scott Claypool, and Rita (husband Mike) Curry; sixteen grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, John and Myrtle; son, John; brothers, Albert (wife Frances), Thomas (wife Diane), William (wife Marty), Donald (wife Marilyn), and Robert; daughter-in-law, Laura Claypool; grandson, Steven Thompson; and great-granddaughter, Angel Richards.
Velma attended Williamsville High School.
She was a retired Cook from New Berlin School District #16 after 30 years of service.
Velma enjoyed completing word search puzzles, loved working in her flower gardens, and cooking for her family.
Visitation for Velma will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens with Rev. Ken Gennicks officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to the New Berlin Fire Department or the Athens Christian Church.
Burial will be held at Fancy Creek Cemetery near Sherman, Illinois.
